Newly Completed Downtown Line 2

The 16.6 km DTL2 stretches from Bukit Panjang, along the food enclaves and school districts of Bukit Timah Road, before connecting to the Downtown Line 1 Stations. The DTL1 and DTL2 will encourage direct travel from north-western parts of Singapore to Central Business District (CBD) and the Marina Bay area. Links will be established with the East-West Line at Bugis station; North-South Line at Newton station; North East Line at Little India and Chinatown stations; Circle Line at Botanic Gardens, Bayfront and Promenade stations; and Bukit Panjang LRT at Bukit Panjang station. A journey from Bukit Panjang to Bugis used to take about 50 minutes. With DTL, it will take about 30 minutes.

The trains used on Downtown line features a range of environmental-friendly improvements. They have more efficient regenerative brakes such that whenever the train stops – it recovers the kinetic energy and converts it for other uses! There’s also less wear and tear on the brakes. This would translate to energy savings of approximately 8,000 kilowatt hours per year!
